Express Entry (EE)

Since January 2015, the Canadian government has launched Express Entry as the application management system for skilled workers. Eligible candidates will be accepted into the pool and will be ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), a points-based system.
Candidates above the cutting points receive invitations to apply for permanent residence. Most complete applications will be processed in 6 months or less.

Express Entry manages applications for three economic immigration programs:

Federal Skilled Worker Program

Eligible applicants need to have 67 out of the 100-point grid to enter the Express Entry pool. Based on the CRS, applicants above the cutting points receive invitations to apply (ITA). ​

Minimum requirements:

  1. Your skilled work experience must be:
    • in the same type of job (have the same NOC) as the job you want to use for your immigration application (called your primary occupation)
    • within the last 10 years
    • paid work (This means you must have been paid wages or earned commission. Volunteer work or unpaid internships don’t count.)
    • at least 1 year of continuous work or 1,560 hours total (30 hours per week). You can meet this in a few different ways:
      • full-time at 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
      • equal amount in part-time: 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
      • full-time at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
  2. Language ability CLB 7;
  3. Minimum Canadian high school education or equivalent; If you have foreign education, you must have a completed credential and an Educational Credential Assessment report (ECA);
  4. You must show that you have enough money for you and your family to settle in Canada, unless you:
    • are currently able to legally work in Canada
    • have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada
  5. You must be admissible to Canada;
  6. You must plan to live outside the province of Quebec.

Federal Skilled Trades Program

Federal Skilled Trades Program is for skilled workers in NOC B with a valid job offer of full-time employment for at least 1 year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial or federal authority.

Minimum requirements:

  1. Have at least 2 years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the 5 years before you apply;
  2. Job category in NOC B;
  3. CLB 5;
  4. You must be admissible to Canada;
  5. You must plan to live outside the province of Quebec.

Canadian Experience Class

Canadian Experience Class is for students and skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.

Minimum requirements:

  1. Have at last 1 year of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before your apply:
  2. job category in NOC 0, A, or B;
  3. No education requirement;
  4. Meet the minimum language level of:
    • CLB 7 for NOC 0 or A or
    • CLB 5 for NOC B;
  5. You must be admissible to Canada;
  6. You must plan to live outside the province of Quebec.
